LumiQuest SoftBox LTp REVIEW

I have always been an "off-camera" flash kinda guy. On-camera flash is too limiting and kind of boring if you asked me. I do use on-camera when mobility is important but when doing any kind of portraitures, off-the-shoe is the only way to go.

My hunt for the "best" light modifier is never ending. I wanted something big but manageable and easy to transport. I've been carrying around an umbrella for awhile but its nearly impossible to use in any breezy conditions. Ever had a regular rain umbrella "fold over" on you in gusty winds? So embarassing! Flash umbrellas are flimsier than rain umbrellas. So, I needed something that didn't catch the wind as much. Thats when I stumbled upon the LumiQuest LTp SoftBox.

The LTp is everything I always wanted in a light modifier. Big softlight and extremely portable. Pretty ingenious design. It attaches right to the speedlite via velcro. When you're done shooting with it, the LTp folds down flat and stores away in your laptop sleeve of your camera bag. I think LTp stands for Laptop Pro.

Pros:
*Folds flat for easy storage
*120 square inch surface area
*Relatively inexpensive

Cons:
*Kind flimsy vinyl material

Summary:
I highly recommend this modifier for any one with a laptop compartment camera bag. It's thin enough where you should be able to fit both a 15" laptop and softbox in the same compartment. Now you will always have a big modifier with you without having to lug around big umbrellas, etc.

Here is the collapsed LTp Softbox. You can see how thin it folds down to.

This is how it attaches to your speedlite.

Fully assembled and ready to go.

The softbox increases the size of the flash head drastically.

The speedlite has no issues utilizing all 120 square inches of the box.

Notice how much smaller the "bare bulb" speedlite looks compared to the LTp?

Best of all, it folds flat into your laptop compartment.

The setup and my favorite subject to shoot ;)

Soft pleasing light.

My dog is a natural.

And of course a self portrait.
